KateM has it right. McMenamins brewpubs are excellent places to get good food and great beer. They have a comfortable and relaxing atmosphere. My favorite is Tavern and Pool on NW 23rd and Thurman or the Barley Mill Pub on SE Hawthorne. Try the fries, the best.

There is a local chain of brew pubs called McMenamins that is a signature Portland area hangout - great food and great beer. Check out Kennedy school (a tranformed school house to hotel/restaurat) or Edgefield (transformed poor farm).

hmmm there's this russian restaurant that is under 20 for one or two people... the food is killer-amazing! and it is worth the $20 because even my dad took home a full carry out box...
I can't remember the name unfortunately, but if you happen upon a small russian restaurant on a corner with only one waiter and like six tables...that's the place. the service is great also...
i do remember that is is across from an international foods market, and that my stepsister said the ukranian beer was also very good.
peace out in portland!

Mama Mia's has great Italian wonderful service and beautiful surrounding, Alessandro's is also very nice. Mother's is great for comfort food.
