Vancouver has the Farmer's Market. They have a mall. They have a dance theatre, a symphony, and several performance theatres. The downtown park (Esther Short) has been revitalized and there are frequent concerts and events there. By the Columbia, there are all kinds of walking trails.

Portland is only minutes away and you can do virtually anything there from visit the Rose Gardens to visit a brewery to go hiking.

45 minutes south of Vancouver is Oregon wine country - some of the best Pinot Noirs in the world are there. 45 minutes east is the Gorge. Learn how to windsurf or kite board - it's one of the top windsurfing spots in the world. 45 minutes north is Mt St Helens. Visit the center and hike around. A few hours east is the coast - both Oregon and Washington have fabulous and safe beaches. Cannon Beach and Haystack rock are considered one of the most beautiful beaches in the world.

Most bookstores have books of things to do in the Portland area. If you don't want to spend the money, visit the library and borrow a copy. Also, look in the newspapers for upcoming events.

I've lived in Washington state for nearly 50 yrs, and Vancouver has never been much of a place to do anything! Nearby Astoria, OR is pretty, and Portland, OR has tons of stuff going on all the time. If you check out the official Vancouver, WA website, you'll see for yourself!
